Umm...brrrrr. Since Sandy came to visit, she left us Winter...Nooo!! Okay, we live in Canada, expect the chills and frost bite right? But I WANT THE FALL-ZEE WEATHER FIRST! Sheesh. Who decided to skip over that season?
Well, since we are sporting the winter gear, thought I would FINALLY post my daughters 1st Birthday Party that only happend about 10 months ago...ha! It was a COOL Pom Pom Winter ONEderland of fun.
Kahlen was born in the wintery months and I felt like I had completely missed winter that year. When I was finally recovered, I went outside with my daughter and realized it was Spring...haha So I knew for her very first birthday I wanted it to be a Winter Wonderland of Colourful Fun! I added the Pom Poms to the theme, as she was CRAZY for pom poms at that time, and of course I needed a sweet little character none other than a penguin =)
As guests entered into this wintery wonderland, they were welcomed by fresh bright white snowing pom poms (I'll be doing a video tutorial for these soon, stay tuned!) Of course a winter wonderland of fun had to go along with the "Winter Wonderland" song, so I knew I wanted stations around the house to coordinate with the quotes from the cheerful song.
All the decorations were handmade or already in my bin of Christmas goodness.
I wanted the cake to look like a hill of snow with sprinkles of glittery candy...so my amazing momma whipped up a cake, slopped on some white icing and topped it off with candies...YES!!
I made the Cupcakes and Peppermint Bark because:
1. Cupcakes are my
weakness
2. Peppermint Bark is requested annually by my hubba
bubba =P
My mom made the cookies by creating and molding her own cookie cutter to match my penguin design.
Oh, and this was my horrible attempt at Snowmen Brownie Pops. Looked a lot better in my head
The strawberries WERE frosted with white sugar, but I took so long to take the photo that it melted, ha. And yes, I'm Canadian, powdered Timbits as Snowballs of course...cha!
Staying within the Pom Pom theme, we covered a piece of cardboard with kraft paper. Pushed in thumbtacks to spell out ONE and wrapped some yarn around the tacks....fineeto! A sign that was made with what was laying around the house =)
Drink Station - Of course this has to be themed! Melted Snowman Water by using a black hat, coal & carrot along with coordinating water bottle labels available HERE, Comforting Coffee, Peppermint Hot Chocolate with Brrr Marshmallows and Blue Glacier Koolaid Juice. I tell you....I had to refill that Peppermint Hot Chocolate & Blue Koolaid about 5 times...the kiddies went nutso over it!
Song signs and decor.
A tree filled with Photo Snowflakes of Kahlen from birth to 11 months and blue birds (hard to see) to go with the "bluebird quote" from the song...this was my favourite part!!! cutie-pah-tootie
More coordinating themed homemade munchies. "Plow into Cheese" dip, "Muddy Snowballs," "Snow Capped Asparagus Trees," "Chourice by the Fire," Arctic Tuna," "Turkey Brrrd," "Avalance Ham," and Butternut Squash Soup Shots. Message me if you want any recipes...I'm telling you, every time I make these delectables...they are DEVOURED!
someone is in a food coma...haha
FAVOURS - I bought little jars from the dollar store and filled them with a cup of hot chocolate mix and mini marshmallows so guests could get cozy with a cup of warm goodness =)
HERE'S THE BIRTHDAY PENGUIN!!! Seriously cute right?! You know you want to pinch those cheeks.
I'm pretty positive this little munchkin' enjoyed her guests more than the prezzie's...a social bug like her parents =P
Guests were still lingering late into the evening that we ended up hosting an unexpected sit down dinner....love these days with great company!
