Yup! Someone had a baby!! I designed this Bedtime Stories Baby Shower for mah girl AKIKO!!! Ohhh how you are so in shock right now...I told you A LOT has happend =P
This past year we have been going nuts designing parties for the ones we love and thought...HEY, why not post them on Etsy for others to enjoy. So here it is....our brand spankin new SHOP on Etsy. For those of you who know us, we have quite the energetic personalities and do and say the craziest things, so of course our shop would be called Wakawoo Events **enter fist pump dance here** haha You will see us SLOWLY changing bits of our blogs design here and there...you know, a little 'here' after kids are fed, bathed, entertained and a few more changes 'there' after teaching, choreographing, meetings and a tad bit more 'here' after cooking, laundry and painting my nails..ha! Let's just say it'll take some time.
So feel free to dance around our WAKAWOO EVENTS SHOP ON ETSY and let us know what you think. Remember, we're teachers and thrive off of constructive criticism!
Okay...back to mah girl ;-)
Just coming off of maternity leave, my bank account wasn't looking too chipper, so this was definitely a baby shower on a budget.
Akiko & Corey knew right off the bat they wanted to have a Hungry Caterpillar nursery theme. So I went with that and decided to go with a Bedtime Stories theme knowing I would be able to incorporate the nursery into the party using my slim budget =)
Akiko is very bright, energetic and cheerful and knew the colour scheme had to match, so bright colours it was.
Favours: Being on a budget with a guest list of initially 75...whoa, I knew I had to think about the favours! I ended up making bookmarks that read "Once upon a time, there was a child, whose bedtime stories made him smile."Decor: I decorated tables with my daughters books, toys and Akiko's baskets. I used her bottles to hold utensils and decorate. Took all the clothes and shoes she already had and decorated with them around the room.
Design: When doing the design work, I knew I wanted to incorporate bright colours, sheep, clouds, stars and stories. We played Bedtime Bingo as Akiko opened gifts. I included all bedtime items on the bingo cards to match the theme, even a little caterpillar =)
Food: Tiff was pretty amazing at cutting holes out of strawberries and watermelon to match Hungry Caterpillar story and cutting the sandwiches out in fish & bear shapes to go with their coordinating books. Talk about time consuming but SOOOO effective and was absolutely adorable! Akiko's mommy and seesters cooked up a storm and the dishes were wiped clean, talk about scrumptious!
Dessert Table: Made 3D stars to hang on the backdrop of the Sweet Dreams table from bristol board. My mom made adorbale baby themed chocolates. I made the remainder of the desserts. Glued pom pom ribbon, I got from the dollar bin, on my votive holders and served vanilla pudding. When it came to the cake...Yikes..I don't make cakes, but I wanted something themed and just didn't have the bucks for it. So Betty Crocker I tried to be. Vanilla cake, buttercream icing, A TON of skittles and some cute star pacifiers. That's about as creative as I get with cakes...it was delicious though!
Decor & DIY: I brought over her crib, rocking chair, table and lamp from the nursery. She had a comfy chair for her to open all her gifts that were placed in the crib, whilst sitting beneath 3 garlands of pages I tore out from second hand childrens books, strung on some yarn and hung overtop. Super easy, effective and cheap!
How RIDICULOUS is this diaper caterpillar made by Akiko's sister Bree?!!
Common??!! How incredible is that Hungry Caterpillar quilt Akiko's mommy made...wow!
CAKE TIME!!! Everyone was eyeing those skittles!
Mommy, Daddy and big sis. Ok, really? Why are you guys so cute? We have the most adorable besties =)
She's pretty cute too right?! haha Also, wanted to add my momma in there as she was a GIGANTOR help!
We had such a great party....all the food was devoured....all the desserts were GONE!! Gifts were won, laughs were had and all such fun in our jammies!
You can purchase this ENTIRE collection HERE. Super cheap and personlized!
ThAnK YoU to my mom, Corey, Ben and Hailey for helping me decorate and to Christine, Sabrina & Tiff for coordinating food, flowers, gifts and games. Oh! And of course a massive thank you to Dana of Ciao Bella Dance Studio for letting us party it up in her studio..xo
